Oslo is a city shaped by its relationship with the sea. Nowhere is this connection more apparent than aboard MS Brisen, a fully electric vessel by Norwegian company Brim Explorer, offering a quiet and considered way to experience the Oslofjord.

The Boat
Designed, developed and built in Norway, MS Brisen brings together Norwegian technology, architecture and design in a setting created for both exploration and slow travel. Large windows and open decks frame the changing landscape, while the interior has been carefully considered to create a warm, contemporary atmosphere.

“Brim Explorer has had a design-driven approach since we started in 2018,” says co-founder Espen Larsen-Hakkebo. “Functional, durable and beautiful interiors are very important to us. Everything has to withstand hard use and last for many years, while also creating a high-quality experience for our guests.”

Design Collaboration
For Northern, the project has a particularly local significance. As an Oslo-based design brand, we are proud to see our lighting and furniture become part of the experience aboard MS Brisen. The sculptural Dahl pendant, refined Cling and Birdy wall lamps, and specially developed outdoor Vev chairs contribute to the vessel’s understated Scandinavian character.

Our collaboration with Brim Explorer extends beyond the products already on board. “We have had a very good collaboration with Northern from the beginning,” says Larsen-Hakkebo. “Northern is a great sparring partner, and together we find functional and beautiful solutions.”

“We will only build fully electric vessels going forward,” says Larsen-Hakkebo. “Quiet, electric experiences are better for wildlife, guests, nature and the climate.”

For visitors from around the world, MS Brisen offers a different way to discover Oslo – from the fjord, surrounded by nature and shaped by Norwegian design. For us, it is a proud reminder that some of the best stories about Oslo are created when local ideas, people and design come together.
